|
Object:
The object of the game is to Score as many points as possible or the most points!
Please Select whether you would like the rules for First Arrangement or Second Arrangement
Bar Billiards Rules (First Arrangement)
Setup & Play:
| 1. Place the two white skittles on the spots left and right of the centre cup, the red skittle on the spot below the centre cup and the black skittle on the spot below the bottom cup. The red ball is then placed on the spot below the red skittle (See Picture). The value of each cup is marked on the table and on the ball tray (Note - Cup values may vary in different leagues or areas). |
|
| 2. After determining the order of play, the first player places one of the 7 white balls anywhere on the baulk line(Note - in some leagues or areas the ball must be placed between the spots on the baulk line or within a 'D') and commences by playing at and striking the red ball otherwise he cannot score. Subsequently any ball in play on the table is an object ball for this purpose. Each player continues by taking a white ball from the ball tray and playing from baulk as described above, until he fails to score, or until he upsets a skittle or commits any other foul as listed under Penalties and Fouls. When holed the red ball counts as double and is re spotted each time it is holed. |
| 3. If all the available balls are on the table (I.E. none in the ball tray) the next player takes any white from the table and plays it from the baulk line. If only the red ball is left on the table it is taken and played from baulk as in rule 5. |
| 4. After the timing mechanism has allowed the ball baffle bar to fall, balls which are holed will not return to the ball tray. All white balls holed after the baffle has fallen count double and the red ball counts quadruple the value of the cup in which they are holed. |
| 5. When only one ball remains each player is allowed one attempt to hole the ball in the centre cup. (In some areas or Leagues each player continues in turn until the ball is holed). The striker must play from baulk against one or more cushions and if successful scores 300 for a white ball and 600 for the red ball, but for failing to hole the ball in the centre cup, or if holed in any other cup 300 points are deducted for a white ball and 600 deducted for a red ball. |
6. When a skittle is upset and cannot be replaced on its spot (the spot being covered by a ball), then the ball is removed so that the skittle can be replaced,
- if the ball so removed is the red it shall be placed on its own spot
- if the ball so removed is a white it is placed in the ball tray and is then available to play from the baulk line by the next player.
|
| 7. When the red cannot be replaced on its spot (the spot being covered by a white ball) the white ball is removed so that the red can be placed on its spot. The white ball so removed is placed in the ball tray and is then available to play from the baulk line. |
| 8. If a skittle is moved from its spot without being upset - it remains as so moved, no penalty is incurred and the player continues his break. |
9. After the ball baffle falls and the red ball is holed,
- Play continues without re spotting the red ball, any white balls in hand being played against any white ball on the table.
- If there are two or more white balls in hand but none on the table, then one of the white balls is placed on the red ball spot as an object ball but if holed counts only the value of a white ball.

10. On failing to score and for all penalties as listed below - the player loses his turn and the next player goes to the table, in addition:
- Upsetting a white skittle cancels the players break but all points scored previously are retained.
- Upsetting the red or the black skittle cancels the players (and his/her sides) entire score and the player (and his/her side) must start again from zero.
- If any ball runs into baulk the player 's break is cancelled as in (10.1). If it is the red ball it is re spotted and if it is a white ball it is placed in the ball tray - available for the next player to play from baulk.
- For any cue ball holed without striking an object ball (except as in rule 5) the players break is cancelled as in (10.1) but otherwise there is no penalty for missing an object ball.
- Except when the red ball has been trapped by the ball baffle bar any player who plays without the red ball being on the table cancels his break as in (10.1).

Bar Billiards Rules (Second Arrangement)
Setup & Play:
| 1. Place the two white skittles bellow the left and right of the centre cups, the red skittle immediately below the bottom centre cup and the black skittle immediately below the bottom cup. The red ball is then placed on the spot immediately below the black skittle (See Picture). The value of each cup is marked on the table and on the ball tray (Note - Cup values may vary in different leagues or areas). |
|
| 2. After determining the order of play, the first player places one of the 7 white balls anywhere on the baulk line(Note - in some leagues or areas the ball must be placed between the spots on the baulk line or within a 'D') and commences by playing at and striking the red ball otherwise the player cannot score. Subsequently any ball in play on the table is an object ball for this purpose. Each player continues by taking a ball from the ball tray and playing from baulk as described above, until he fails to score, or until he upsets a skittle or commits any other foul as listed under Penalties and Fouls. When holed the red ball counts as double - it is replayed from baulk by the striker. (Note - it is not re spotted as in rule 2 of the first arrangement). |
| 3. If all the available balls are on the table (I.E. none in the ball tray) the next player takes any ball from the table (red or white) and plays it from the baulk line. If only one ball is left see rule 5. If there are no balls on the table - two or more balls are in the ball tray then a ball (red or white) is placed on the red ball spot as an object ball and play continues. |
| 4. After the timing mechanism has allowed the ball baffle bar to fall, balls which are holed will not return to the ball tray. All white balls holed after the baffle has fallen count double and the red ball counts quadruple the value of the cup in which they are holed. |
| 5. When only one ball remains the white and black skittles are placed in their respective cups and the red skittle is placed in the middle cup of the five cups at the top of the table. Each player is then allowed one attempt to hole the ball in the centre cup. (In some areas or Leagues each player continues in turn until the ball is holed), the striker must play from baulk against one or more cushions and if successful scores 300 for a white ball and 600 for the red ball, but for failing to hole the ball in the centre cup, or if holed in any other cup 300 points are deducted for a white ball and 600 deducted for a red ball. |
| 6. When a skittle is upset and cannot be replaced on its spot (the spot being covered by a ball), then the ball is removed so that the skittle can be replaced, the ball so removed ( white or red ) shall be placed in the ball tray and is then available for play from the baulk line by the next player. |
| 7. If a skittle is moved from its spot without being upset - it remains as so moved, no penalty is incurred and the player continues his/her break. |
|
- If any ball runs into baulk the player 's break is cancelled as in (8.1) and the ball (red or white) is placed in the ball tray and is available for the next player to play from baulk.
- For any cue ball holed without striking an object ball (except as in rule 5) the players break is cancelled as in (8.1) but otherwise there is no penalty for missing an object ball.
